This page features the "how to" for
producing digital printed faces for electric sign letters.
Digital
Printed P/C Electric Letter Faces
< Electric
display features digitally imaged letters and upper contour
cabinet faces.
1. Faces are digitally imaged on translucent white vinyl and
clear laminated for UV protection. 2. Imaged vinyl is
applied to translucent white 1/8″ acrylic. 3. Upper contour section illuminated with 6500 15 mil white
neon. 4. Lower P/C letters illuminated with clear red 15 mil
neon. 5.
The digital imaged vinyl is applied to the first surface of the
CNC cut acrylic then trimmed back to the edge of the acrylic. 6. Once the vinyl is on the faces, the letters are
trim capped.

Commentary
"Digital"
.
* A production decision was made not to specify the CNC cutting of
the vinyl for the letters. Since the digital imaged face vinyl was
outsourced. This was only the 2nd such display to have first surface
digital vinyl for the letter faces. The first digital letter face job by
the preferred sign fabrication shop was the Paradise
Picture Frame wall sign.
. That sign was
handled the same as this Gold Scissors display. The paradise vinyl
application went well with the "rough" hand cut method.
. The plan for the
next digital face letter sign is
to provide the full vinyl CNC cutting file. The file for the letters will be supplied slightly larger than the CNC
file for the acrylic letters. Then after application, the letter face
vinyl will be hand trimmed back to the actual acrylic. This makes
positioning the vinyl over the acrylic letter faces simpler.
. Note: It
is important to specify double inking for translucent vinyl for
illuminated faces. This allows the color intensity to remain. The
alternative is a washed out look when only one ink run is used for
electric vinyl face applications when illuminated at night.

For the "M" logo on the pylon above, a photograph

then digitally printed on translucent vinyl to complete the
existing pylon face change / upgrade.

existing sign back-lit "M" logo from another
location.. The lettering was fabricated new from the auto
mfgs. specifications by Naturalite Neon / Phx.
